Finch is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license and anyone can freely use it. Please open issues or file pull requests and start discussing your ideas with us in the Finch Slack channel. We want to expand Finch from its current basic starting point to cover Windows and Linux platforms and additional functionality that we’ve put on our roadmap, but would love your ideas as well. We are excited to build Finch in the open with interested collaborators. In particular, Justin Cormack, CTO of Docker shared that “we’re bullish about Finch’s adoption of containerd and BuildKit, and we look forward to AWS working with us on upstream contributions.” We’re also hopeful that with our adoption of these open source components from which Finch is composed, we’ll increase focus and attention on these components, and add more hands to the important work of open source maintenance and stewardship. We are happy to address issues, and are ready to accept pull requests. We have plans for features and innovations, but opening the project this early will lead to a more robust and useful solution for all. Rather than iterating in private and releasing a finished project, we feel open source is most successful when diverse voices come to the party. With Finch, you can create and run containers locally, and build and publish Open Container Initiative (OCI) container images.Īt launch, Finch is a new project in its early days with basic functionality, initially only supporting macOS (on all Mac CPU architectures). It provides for simple installation of a native macOS client, along with a curated set of de facto standard open source components including Lima, nerdctl, containerd, and BuildKit. Finch is a new command line client for building, running, and publishing Linux containers. Today we are happy to announce a new open source project, Finch.

After the spring semester had passed, we were able to complete our first official recovery run during the fall 2015 semester. Hannah Gingerich was another FRN National Fellow who helped me bring FRN to Marist, and both she and Sara helped me every step of the way, which I am very appreciative of. Spring 2015 was where a majority of the prep work occurred for gathering my leadership team, contacting Sodexo dining services and partner agencies, and prepping for recovery runs. But little did I know what I was getting myself into. It didn’t seem like a hefty process looking at the roadmap PDF for starting a Food Recovery Network chapter. She outlined the steps of what I had to go through to start my chapter: recruit a leadership team, find a partner agency, and get dining approval. “I’m SO excited to hear you want to start a chapter at Marist College!.”. Reading her email, I could practically hear her enthusiastic voice. Even though it only took Sara Ribakove, one of the FRN National Fellows that helped me through the whole process, 48 hours to respond back to me, it felt like weeks passed because I was waiting in anticipation. Once I read all the way down to my signature at the bottom of the message, I clicked send. “To whom it may concern, hello, my name is Nicole Souza, and I am currently a junior…”. I reread my email several times, making sure everything was formal and I had zero grammatical errors. The first step in bringing a Food Recovery Network chapter to Marist was to contact Food Recovery Network’s national headquarters about inquiring to begin the process. I closed my browser, and over the next few days, Food Recovery Network and its’ mission lingered in the back of my mind, and eventually I decided to take action.Ĭold-calling wasn’t exactly my strong suit. I wondered to myself, Why doesn’t Marist College have a system like this on campus? What happened to all of the leftovers Sodexo has at the end of the day? Does that get thrown away too? I thought about all of those dishes and plates full of food on the dining rack in our school’s main dining hall, all about to be dumped in the trash. I was already in the mindset that wasting perfectly edible food was a huge taboo, and here was a non-profit organization whose mission was to fight food waste. This was a cause primarily focused on recovering perishable food and bringing it to those in need. After navigating through the site’s different tabs and content, something sparked inside me. Curious, I clicked on the link and it brought me to their national website. As I got to the bottom of the email, I saw a small blurb describing an organization called Food Recovery Network. Mature Palmer amaranth has thinner stems than redroot pigweed, and its combination of non-wavy, egg shaped, round-tipped leaves with very long leaf stalks and white veined undersides sets the mature plant apart. Similar species: Palmer amaranth seedlings are similar to redroot pigweed ( Amaranthus retroflexus L.), smooth pigweed ( Amaranthus hybridus L.), Powell amaranth ( Amaranthus powellii S. Fruits are brown, triangular or pyramid shaped sacs, with 3-5 spines at their tip sacs rupture at maturity, releasing one glossy, round, dark red-brown to black, 0.04-0.06” (0.1-0.15 cm) long seed. Female spikes are similar, with thick, stiff, notched bracts with a small spine located in the notch. Terminal spikes of male plants are yellow and 0.5-1.5 ft (15-45 cm), with thin, triangular, green bracts around individual flowers. The longest spike is located on the main stem smaller spikes are present at branch tips and in upper leaf-stem joints. Plants are either male or female, with individual, inconspicuous, green flowers grouped in spikes spikes are soft or lightly spiny, thin, 0.3-0.8” (0.8-2 cm) wide, often nodding, and largely unbranched. The relatively shallow taproot is reddish near the soil surface. Leaves are alternate, hairless egg to lance shaped, 2-8” (5-20 cm) long by 0.5-2.5” (1.3-6 cm) wide, with conspicuous white veins on the undersides, and long leaf stalks. Upper stems and branches are greener, less hairy, and have narrower, pointier leaves than those located lower on the plant. The coarse, red stem of mature plants will reach 1.5-6.5 ft (0.5-2 m) tall with long, thin branches spaced far apart on the stem. Young leaves are alternate, egg shaped, and roughly 5 times longer (0.4-0.5” = 1-1.3 cm) than wide, with notched tips. Cotyledons are lance shaped, hairy, and red to green in color. Sometimes the side quests are tougher than the main encounters, and they aren’t always rewarding, but select ones are how Sam gets extra upgrades for his weapons. There are main story objectives, which are noted by yellow markers, and several side objectives, shown with blue symbols. I enjoyed the talents as well, when I could find the points to upgrade them, and using those along with Sam’s growing arsenal is a pleasure. Not a deal-breaker by any means, but it felt like a light bit of railroading. The enemies I thought I had skipped simply rushed me a few moments later while I was still finishing off the first group and rolled over me. In several areas, the designers wanted the player to approach a large group of enemies a specific way, but trying to find a way around them or a different path of assault wound up in disaster. A more substantial complaint I have is how the game doesn’t seem to reward creativity. The weapon wheel can be a bit annoying at first, sticking or not pulling up the highlighted item, as well as having a small glitch where I couldn’t immediately turn left or right for a moment after exiting that menu. The controls are tight, standard for the first-person shooter genre, and easy to use. The weapons are fun and some of the boss fights were nice and hectic, keeping me engaged and satisfied to reach that calm after a big battle. I was never bored and nothing felt truly monotonous, even fighting the same enemies over and over again. It may seem repetitive to some: enter area, shoot everything, cross the threshold into a new zone, run away and shoot again, with the occasional vehicle or mech section to try and keep things inspired. What Serious Sam 4 provides is some badass action. The world has been overrun by an evil alien dictator and the player is going to take control of Sam Stone to make sure he and his team can make them pay. Other than this giving the developers, Croteam, the chance to play with some different characters, there isn’t too much to note. As someone who has played every main title in the series, I figured this had to be some sort of alternate reality or reboot, but it turns out we’re just in a prequel. For those scratching their brains, trying to remember if they’ve ever played one of these before, you’ll remember it as soon as that first horde of guys with bombs for hands comes screaming toward you in Serious Sam 4. It’s a franchise that tries to throw as much as it can at a player and gives them just enough equipment to get out of the situation by the skin of their teeth. It’s ridiculous, slightly absurd, and just a touch to the left or right of being truly great. The Serious Sam series is anything but - that’s the joke. Attitude changeĪs shown by a study published in 2018 by the Health Profession Education Journal, one of the main reasons of patient complaints regarding communication with doctors is a perceived poor altitude.ĭoctors may be seen by their patients as “insensitive”, “uncaring” or “lacking empathy” when they fail to understand the suffering and daily reality of those in their care. Empathy, listening skills and a focus on human connection can go a long way when speaking to a patient. Patient-doctor communication is a complex interpersonal interaction that requires an understanding of each party’s emotional state. Fluent communication is key to develop a good patient-doctor relationship How can we improve? It is important to keep in mind that one of the duties of doctors is to shoulder the majority of the communicative effort and that they need to do it in a way that won’t hinder the treatment, the emotional wellbeing of the patient or their faith in the medical system. Where the former usually has no previous reliable information about their condition, the latter frequently has an almost excessive abundance of it. While the doctors are on their workplace, fully immersed in the routine of their job and in a position of authority and knowledge patients come to the visit filled with uncertainty, fear and more often than not, pain and discomfort.Īdditionally, it is important to keep in mind the disparity in knowledge between the patient and the doctor. We have to keep in mind that the perspectives leading to that interaction couldn’t be more different. It is very rare that only one party involved in the issue has to take the brunt of the responsibility, and more often than not, solutions and compromises are reached when both parties acknowledge what they have done wrong and make efforts to fix it.ĭoctor-Patient communication is not one of those cases In any other facet of life, misunderstandings or bad communication are a two-person affair. Well-informed patients not only show better adherence to their treatment and a better understanding of their prognosis, but they also internalize better the purpose of care, making it easier to come to terms with the possible development of a chronic condition.ĭiscover today Miscommunication is never the patient’s fault “Effective doctor-patient communication is a central clinical function in building a therapeutic doctor-patient relationship, which is the heart and art of medicine.” Jennifer Fong Ha, Doctor at the Perths childrens hospital. Usually, we don’t pay much attention to an endemic issue that can have mayor consequences for the health of the patient, such as ineffective communication. When we try to imagine things in the medical practice that might go wrong and worsen a health problem or cause a new one, the most common cases to think about are surgery related infections, malpractice cases or accidents. However, this seems to be something some doctors haven’t yet mastered, and we think it is worthwhile to ask yourself… Are you sure your patients understand you? The communication between doctor and patient is one of the cornerstones of modern medicine, after all, the patient is the only one who really knows about the full extent of the nature of some of their symptoms. This decision sparked the first national protest against the location of a hazardous waste facility. In 1982, North Carolina state officials decided to place a landfill with highly toxic PCB-contaminated soil in the small town of Afton in Warren County, North Carolina. The 1982 North Carolina PCB Protest is widely recognized as the origin of the environmental justice movement. In 1968, grassroots environmental activists from several tribal nations met in Minnesota and formed an organization known as the American Indian Movement (AIM). The origins of the environmental justice movement can be traced to the Indigenous environmental movement, which itself has roots in over 500 years of colonialism, oppression, and ongoing struggles for sovereignty and land rights. Moreover, disaster prevention and recovery plans are often biased against minorities in low-income areas. Affluent, white communities tend to be located on higher ground, so they are less vulnerable to floods than communities of color. The extent of poverty within a region can often have a much stronger effect on the scale of a natural disaster's impact than the severity of the disaster itself. Natural disasters also tend to have unequal impacts on communities of color. In addition, environmental hazards can cause psychological stress. Empirical evidence suggests environmental hazards negatively affect nearby property values, employment opportunities, and economic activities. The most polluted communities tend to be those with high poverty, inadequate infrastructure, substandard schools, chronic unemployment, and poor healthcare systems. An analysis of EPA data found that unequal access to safe drinking water is strongly correlated with race. Additionally, low-income communities of color are more likely to have polluted water. There is evidence that exposure to pollution can result in a higher prevalence of disease. Ĭommunities of color are more likely to be located next to pollution sources, such as landfills, power plants, and incinerators. It creates disparities in many different spheres of life, such as transportation, housing, and economic opportunity. Environmental racism exposes Native Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Hispanic populations to physical health hazards and may negatively impact mental health. Environmental racism is a form of institutional racism, in which people of colour bear a disproportionate burden of environmental harms, such as pollution from hazardous waste disposal and the effects of natural disasters. # repositories and types from one server installation. # are repository servers and will give you the ability to manage multiple # Chocolatey Software recommends Nexus, Artifactory Pro, or ProGet as they # generally really quick to set up and there are quite a few options. # You'll need an internal/private cloud repository you can use. Their province back home transpired not to be London (too jaded and skeptical) but rather in pockets of smalltown and middle Britain, where latent ambition and stifled bombast can thrive among thwarted romantics. Wow, yes, I thought, frowning seriously into my lunchbox.įormed in the seaside town of Teignmouth, Muse signed their first deal in 1998 in Los Angeles, before amassing a giant fanbase in continental Europe. “Space dementia in your eyes/And peace will arise and tear us apart,” Bellamy sang, machines clipping his voice to a slithery alien rasp. In the meantime, I listened to Origin of Symmetry as if to a documentary. My sense they were overblown-that scaling the heights of psychic tumult might not require galactic pomp and an actual jetpack-would take a few years to kick in. Muse were playing melodrama as teenage realism, an extremely, ridiculously honest noise. Origin of Symmetry depicts life as the school-friend trio of Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme, and drummer Dom Howard saw it: a war zone where tyrant guitars and drums vie for space with balletic miniatures and stargazing synths. Before his myriad quirks congealed into lovable schtick, and arena floodlights greeted Muse’s rebirth as prog-pop conspiracists, the band released a pair of fascinating LPs: 2003’s pop opus Absolution and their 2001 space odyssey, the formidable Origin of Symmetry. To straddle the sincere and absurd, the real and fake, was never a stretch for a man who did not resemble his straight-faced Britrock contemporaries so much as the swaggering peacocks of ’70s glam. Stuff would get smashed, but most of the time he was freakishly good at the job. By the end of it, Bellamy could fluently translate his grandiose, pentatonic misery into four minutes of thrillingly throwaway pop. For that, they were shipped out to studio sets for Live & Kicking and The Pepsi Chart Show, learning to peddle the shamelessly real while embracing the shamelessly fake. But that is not how the British trio got to be stars. At nine, you are witnessing genius.īy this point, Matthew Bellamy’s heavy rock laments had already won Muse a global cult, gripped by his softness and oddness. What are you watching? A satire of an empty TV spectacle, perhaps. You know he is miming, but he also performs the artifice of mime-that is, he is miming miming-and as the credits roll another man bursts in and inexplicably breakdances. He throttles the guitar, hops about the stage, barely pretends to sing and play. Muse continues to make unrelenting hardcore art rock Absolution is a tad cheesy, a bit too grandiose in its ambitions, bursting at the seams with too many ideas, and thus exactly what any Muse fan craves. The song, introduced as “New Born,” begins to overwhelm him. Many listeners will probably prefer to tackle the album in small doses, and only the most headstrong won't require a breather. There's little point in selecting highlights, because other than some slow moments that feel tacked on, there's not much variation in theme or mood. A recurring motif of racing samplers suggests nothing less than a rock opera version of the score to Koyaanisqatsi, and then there are the occasional spooky moments where funky rhythms mingle with heavy metal guitars, suggesting a progressive Italian zombie flick soundtrack. Newcomers to the band should expect killer guitars reminiscent of jackhammers and chainsaws, bloodcurdling choruses, and of course, tender passages of falsetto. With song titles and subject matter fueled by fear of the apocalypse and worries about infidelities and random murders, the subject matter is as gloriously pretentious and lovably unlovable as ever. Longtime fans won't miss a beat though, because Bellamy delivers the same Thom Yorke vocal impersonation for which he's known, and continues the same anthemic posturing he's lifted from Freddie Mercury. With Costey manning the desk, the music feels more polished and slick, but less epic and raw. Longtime producer John Leckie sits this one out, and in steps indie über-engineer Rich Costey. Frontman Matt Bellamy and company stick to the same disturbed, and sometimes disturbing, formula that's worked in the past: the emotional intensity and style of Radiohead, a rock thunder descended from Black Sabbath, and the baroque drama of Queen. Though some may still consider them Radiohead mimics, obviously Muse continues to strike a nerve with their alternative hard rock audience, here releasing their third album of heavy guitars, haunted harmonics, and paranoid musings in Absolution. There's something weird going on when sounds start playing over each other, as they often do in a battle. That nice bass explosion, however, can too easily fade into the background when other weapons are firing. Individual sound effects, taken in isolation, are excellent, like the delightful blast and ring of a shell exploding against a tank. In fact, perhaps the single biggest disappointment in Company of Heroes 3’s multiplayer mode is that its sound seems oddly muddled. Sure there are specific balance issues – the M18 Hellcat's too tough! Those flamethrowers are OP! – but show me an RTS without balance issues at launch and I'll show you a liar. I'll say that, as of a few days after launch, this is the most diverse, balanced, and stable multiplayer game in the entire Company of Heroes series to date. CoH3 nails all of that thanks to a wide variety of factions, snappy unit controls, and great multiplayer stability. That'll certainly be true for Company of Heroes 3, because while the single-player campaigns are trapped in a quagmire of a strategic map and bogged down in their storytelling, in multiplayer we can focus on what really matters: moment-to-moment gameplay, balance, and faction mechanics. For a lot of long-time fans, Company of Heroes is a real-time strategy series that’s more about competitive play than single-player campaigns, and we've logged hundreds more hours playing against other people than against the AI in scripted scenarios. |
